Brandin Cooks of Houston Texans restructures agreement to offer a waiver to the team’s salary cap, says source

HOUSTON – Texans have restructured the wide contract of the Brandin Cooks receiver, ESPN sources confirmed.

According to a source, the restructuring cancels the final season of the agreement that Cooks signed with the Los Angeles Rams in 2018, which means that he will now be a free agent after the 2022 season.

The NFL Network reported for the first time that the Cooks contract had been restructured. The restructuring, which frees up more than $ 6 million in the maximum space for Texans, turns $ 10 million of Cooks’ base salary into a signing bonus. Prior to the restructuring, Cooks had a maximum limit of $ 12 million in 2021, but had no money left out of the contract.

The restructuring guarantees Cooks’ salary in 2021 and adds $ 1 million to the contract in the next two seasons.

Cooks is coming out of his fifth season, with over 1,000 welcome meters. The receiver, who plays for the fourth team in seven seasons, had 81 catches for 1,150 yards and six touchdowns in his first season in Houston.

Along with the Cooks, the Texans have a choice in the fifth round, Isaiah Coulter, and slot recipients Randall Cobb and Keke Coutee under contract.

Wide receiver Will Fuller played his fifth game of the year before being suspended in November. Houston has not used the Fuller franchise label, so it will be an unrestricted free agent when the league’s new year begins next week.
