Bradley Beal and Westbrook stopped Durant and the Nets

Washington. Bradley Beal and Russell Westbrook hit 3 points in a stunning 3.8-second sequence at the end of the game to cause the Washington Wizards to overtake Kevin Durant and the Brooklyn Nets with a 149-146 victory on Sunday.

Westbrook finished with 41 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists, while Beal, the NBA’s leading scorer, had 37 points. In the fourth quarter, Beal had 22 points and Westbrook had 15. Durant, second on the league’s scorecard, also had 37 points.

With Washington down 146-141, Beal hit a triple with 8.1 seconds left. Garrison Matthews deflected a pass from Joe Harris to Westbrook and hit another 3 with the remaining 4.3 seconds to bring the Wizards 147-146.

Kyrie Irving found Timothe Luwawu-Carbarrot under a basket to score 2.9 but the shot went wide. Beal added two free throws in 0.7 seconds, while the Wizards managed to win a four-game losing streak and improved their record to 4-12, the worst in the NBA.

Harris had the best offensive contribution of his career with 30 points, and Irving added 26 for the Brooklyn cause. The Nets had won four games in a row.

James Harden missed a concussion in his thigh, the first game he hasn’t played since he was traded from Houston to Brooklyn on January 13th.

Westbrook set the season high in successive games. He entered the game with an average of 18.9 points, the lowest level since the second season of the league in 2009-10.

The Wizards are 1-4 since the resumption of games after a 13-day break that included six postponements for COVID-19 issues.
