MINNEAPOLIS – Nathan Eovaldi pitched five innings with an ERA, and the Boston Red Sox extended their winning streak to eight, defeating the Minnesota Twins 3-2 to start a double title on Wednesday.
Christian Arroyo, Alex Verdugo and Xander Bogaerts each had two successes for Boston, on the longest winning streak of 2018. The Red Sox are the first Seattle Mariners team since 1991 to lose at least three games since the season. at least seven victories, according to the Elias Sports Bureau.
Eovaldi (2-1) allowed two rounds and five shots. Matt Barnes closed to claim his second savior after opening, accepting a walk.
Kenta Maeda (1-1) took the loss, punished by the Minnesota defense in the second half, including a bad shot of his that led to a run. He threw 4 1/3 innings and allowed three runs.
For the Red Sox, the Mexican Verdugo 4-2. Dominicans Rafael Devers 4-1; and Franchy Cordero at 2-1, one scored. Venezuelan Marwin González 3-1, one scored.
