Puerto Rican Ángel Manuel Soto will direct Blue Beetle, by DC and Warner Bros., the first superhero film with a Latino.
“It’s an honor to direct Blue Beetle, the first Latin superhero movie for DC … I want to sincerely thank everyone at Warner Bros. and DC because they trusted me to bring Jaime Reyes to life. I can’t wait to make history together, “the Puerto Rican director of Charm City Kings said in a statement released by The Wrap, which launched the news.
It should be noted that the native director of Santurce had the support of Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith as executive producers of his recent project Charm City Kings.
Soto will enter the film Blue Beetle in the fall, with Zev Foreman as executive producer. The proposal has a screenplay by Mexican Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer, who wrote the new version of Universal’s Scarface and Sony’s Miss Bala, the portal said.
Wrap announced that the film will focus on Mexican-American teenager Jaime Reyes, the third character to assume the cloak of Blue Beetle, a superhero inhabited by two other alter egos.
