Dominican Defense Minister Carlos Luciano Díaz Morfa met on Monday with a delegation of officers from the Haitian National Police (PNH), led by Director General León Charles, where they discussed various security issues between the two countries.
Regarding the reasons for the meeting, Díaz Morfa said that it took place to achieve better cooperation between the two parts of the island in terms of border security issues.
“The goal is to achieve effective cooperation between military and police institutions and coordinate appropriate measures to deal with irregular migration, trafficking and human trafficking, arms flow, drug trafficking and other illicit acts,” the Dominican official said.
Other issues were also addressed, such as the bilateral agenda undertaken by the Dominican Republic and Haiti.
Along with Díaz Morfa, Commander-in-Chief of the Army of the Dominican Republic (ERD), Luis Ernesto Florian Pérez; the director general of the National Police (PN), Edward Sánchez González; the head of the Criminal Intelligence Directorate (DICRIM), Amauri Van Troi Tejada Cruz, and the intelligence director of the joint staff of the Ministry of Defense, Jorge Iván Camino Pérez.
The Commission of Senior Haitian Officials, which was accompanied by the Director General of the PNH, was composed of the Inspector General of the PNH, Frantz Jean François; the director of the Central Directorate of Judicial Police, Frederic Lecompte; the director of the General Information Directorate, Carl Henri Boucher, and the director of the Information and Operations Center, Manite Jean Charles.
