Following today’s report by analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, which highlights major changes for next-generation MacBook Pro models coming in the third quarter of this year, BloombergMark Gurman weighed in with his own report that corroborates some of the details, but apparently differs slightly from others.
First, Gurman shares more details about the return of MagSafe charging on the MacBook Pro, indicating that it will indeed be a design similar to the previous incarnation of agMagSafe on Mac notebooks. Gurman also says that switching back to dedicatedMagSafe upload will allow higher upload speeds.
Gurman says the new MacBook Pro models will surprisingly continue to support USB-C two USB-C ports located next to the agMagSafe port and probably two more USB-C ports on the other side of the machine.
BloombergThe report also provides information on the displays on future MacBook Pro models, indicating that they will use “brighter, higher contrast panels.” The cars will also, of course, be equipped with Apple silicon chips, offering more processing cores and improved graphics compared to the M1 found in the first batch of Apple silicon Macs.
As for the design of the new MacBook Pro models, Kuo had indicated that they would receive a flat-edged iPhone 12-style redesign, but Gurman seems to downplay the significance of any changes, indicating that they will “look similar” to current models but minor design ”.
Gurman also says that Apple “tested” the MacBook Pro versions without Touch Bar, while Kuo seems more definitive that the controversial feature will be eliminated in the final design.
Finally, Gurman notes that Apple is also planning a redesign for the MacBook Air, but it won’t be until “long after” the updated debut of the MacBook Pro.
