Samsung launched its latest line of flagship smartphones in January, which includes the Galaxy S21 Ultra, a direct competitor to the iPhone 12 Pro Max, which Apple introduced in October. In the most recent video on YouTube, we pitted the two smartphones against each other for a blind camera comparison.
In the video above and in the photos in this article, I tagged images with an “A” or a “B”, each letter corresponding to a different smartphone. All images are directly from the camera without editing.
The idea is to look at the images and decide what aesthetics you prefer before revealing what room it is, so for a complete experience, it is worth looking at our video, but we will share the results right at the bottom of this article.
We compared several different camera modes, such as Portrait mode and Night mode, along with different lens options, from ultra wide angle to telephoto. When considering photos, check items such as color temperature differences, lights, and whether there are blown areas (too bright), subject clarity in portrait photos, and for video, stabilization, and shake.
Both the iPhone 12 Pro Max and the Galaxy S21 Ultra have a fantastic camera and are capable of capturing stunning images in most lighting conditions, so most of the time, choosing a winner is limited to your personal preferences. .
Since we are not making a traditional comparison between these two smartphones, there are some Galaxy S21 features that are worth highlighting. Samsung used to limit its S-Pen to Note models, but this year, the S-Pen is compatible with the Galaxy S21 Ultra and is useful for taking notes, drawing, signing documents and more.
There’s also a wireless reverse charge feature for charging headphones or another smartphone and an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor, which is actually something we might see Apple adopt in the future.
As for the camera, there are four lenses, including ultra wide (12MP), wide (108MP w / laser autofocus) and dual telephoto lenses (both 10MP). The camera’s functionality is similar to that of the iPhone 12 Pro Max, for the most part, but Samsung has Space Zoom, which is a 100x digital zoom + optical zoom option. Space Zoom was available last year, but has been improved this year. IPhone 12 Pro Max has no equivalent function and cannot be enlarged so far.
The Galaxy S21 Ultra also has a smaller minimum focusing distance, allowing it to be used for close-up macro photos, which iPhone 12 models can’t do.
Returning to the photo comparison test, if you are wondering what the photos are, there is a paused answer.
All “A” images came from the “iPhone 12 Pro Max”, while all “B” images came from the Galaxy S21 Ultra. If you’ve seen our previous comparison between iPhone 12 Pro Max and Galaxy Note 20, you may have already known the results.
Apple’s sky algorithms are designed to increase the color, focusing on a cool blue tone during the day, which is highly recognized compared to the Galaxy S21 Ultra. FotografiPhone 12 Pro Max photos are more vibrant, while the S21 Ultra has a flatter color profile. None of them are true enough to life, with the real color somewhere in the middle.
Sharpness and sharpness are similar for both smartphones, and in general, all images are clear and crisp. Portrait photos are more or less the same, but Apple iPhones have always struggled with certain items, such as drinking glasses.
There are notable differences in Night mode. S21 Ultra does not do well with warm lighting in some situations, so some of these photos have a shade that tends to be too warm. The video is also similar (everything was captured in 4K at 30 fps), with no major differences in quality or stabilization.
