Bill Gates “Neutral” on Bitcoin, accepts digital currencies

Microsoft co-founder and billionaire Bill Gates said he has a “neutral view” on bitcoin, but supports the digitization of money as a way to reduce transaction costs.

In an interview with CNBC’s Squawk Box, Gates said he has a neutral view of bitcoin. He revealed that he does not own any bitcoin and does not short-circuit the crypto asset.

Gates, who recently released a book on preventing global climate change, has led the Gates Foundation with his wife Melinda since leaving Microsoft. He explained that the Foundation is working to create more transparency with money and reverse taxes, rather than to protect anonymity.

Gates commented that the volatility of bitcoin prices was determined by the “mania” in the markets and that it would be difficult to predict the trajectory of the crypto-asset.

The recent comments of the technology billionaire represent an evolution of bitcoin. In May 2018, Gates famously said he would shorten bitcoin “if there is an easy way to do it” and said he quickly sold the BTC he received for a birthday present.
