Biden’s dog gets professional help adjusting to the White House

Major, one of President Joe Biden’s and First Lady Jill Biden’s dogs, will receive professional help adjusting to the White House after a few incidents last month, a White House official said Monday.

Training for the 3-year-old German Shepherd will take place off-site, not at the White House but in the Washington metropolitan area, Michael LaRosa, a spokesman for the first lady, said in a statement sent by mail Monday. The training is expected to last a few weeks, he added.

The Bidens also have another German Shepherd, the 12-year-old champion, in the White House. But it is the younger dog who has been the cause of accidents since the two moved to the White House in January.

Last month, the White House confirmed that Major had bitten someone while on a walk. Shortly before that incident, on March 8, the dog caused what the presidential residence said was a minor injury to a Secret Service employee.

Both dogs went back to Biden’s Delaware home for a while after the first incident. The White House noted that it was because the first lady would be traveling for a few days, but the president had said Major was being trained.

During National Pet Day on Sunday, Jill Biden tweeted pictures of the dogs, accompanying them with the phrase, “I love this two!”
