People can apply for grants starting January 7, 2021, the singer announced on her website on Tuesday. The grants will be sent to the 100 selected people at the end of January.
“Beyoncé continues her heart of support and helps where it is needed most. The second phase of the BeyGOOD Impact Fund will now help those affected by the housing crisis,” according to a press release.
“The housing moratorium is set to end on December 26, resulting in foreclosures and evictions. Many families are affected by the pandemic that has led to job losses, disease and the general recession in the economy.” shows in the statement.
An estimated 9.2 million tenants who lost income during the pandemic were left behind by the rent, according to an analysis of census data by the Center for Budgetary and Political Priorities.
Once the moratoriums are lifted, many of these tenants will pay the entire rent back or come up with some sort of payment plan with their landlord – or they could face the loss of their homes.
Applicants must submit the necessary documentation to the National Association for the Advancement of Colored Persons (NAACP) by the deadline.
This is not Beyoncé’s first effort to help pandemic-affected communities.
BeyGOOD has partnered with NAACP to support small businesses owned by blacks affected by the pandemic, so far providing $ 250 with $ 10,000 in grants.
In May, she set up Covid-19 mobile test sites with her mother, Tina Knowles-Lawson, in their hometown of Houston, Texas. He also donated $ 6 million in partnership with Start Small Jack Dorsey to the coronavirus relief in April.
