SAN ANTONIO – CPS Energy has tackled “false posts” on social media following a series of power cuts in the San Antonio and Bexar County area.
According to the company, “unofficial CPS Energy messages” are being spread on social media.
“NOTE: Unofficial CPS Energy messages are being distributed through social media,” the company said Tuesday. “While we provide several daily updates, please note that this was NOT from CPS Energy.”

The messages described by the power company refer to the state issuing an ‘electrical load warning’. The post mentions, among other things, a grid failure and the inability to “support critical infrastructure”, such as hospitals.
CPS Energy President and CEO Paula Gold-Williams said on Tuesday that more freezing rain in Tuesday night’s forecast will prove challenging the company’s efforts to restore power to hundreds of thousands of San Antonio residents.

Currently, more than 280,000 San Antonio residents have no power due to the frigid temperatures that have affected its ability to generate power.
Every energy source – including wind, solar, coal, natural gas and nuclear – was affected by the temperatures in one way or another, Gold-Williams said.
About two-thirds of the CPS Energy Grids still have rotating outages. The other third of the grid will continue to be powered as those circuits feed critical services such as a hospital, base or police.
However, the “intensity of the freezing temperatures has done some damage” to the utility’s ability to provide power, Gold-Williams said. “While we do see some improvement. We’re not out of the woods. “
