Beverly Hills Eatery apparently plans to party inside “Speakeasy” inside, attracting police interest – NBC Los Angeles

City officials hope to put the kibosh on the plans of the famous Beverly Hills restaurant for a New Year’s Eve party, which would violate the county’s health orders banning meals in person, amid the recent rise in coronavirus cases.

La Scala, an Italian gourmet restaurant on 434 N. Canon Dr., allegedly placed guests in bags to assess the interest of its customers in a “speakeasy” -style party, but when the news appeared on social media, officials from Beverly Hills intervened.

“The city has been in direct contact with La Scala representatives (on December 24) to confirm the terms of the county’s health order,” said Keith Sterling, Beverly Hills public information manager.

“We understand that this is an incredibly difficult time for all of our business, however, the County Order is currently banning indoor and outdoor dining, including in the city of Beverly Hills.”

The city’s police department also said it is aware of the plans.

“Thank you for labeling BHPD. Beverly Hills Code Enforcement is aware and will address this issue,” the department wrote on Twitter on Friday.

Attempts to reach Scala for comment on Saturday were unsuccessful.

A copy of the invitation posted on Twitter, written in italics, says: “Welcome back to the Prohibition of the 1920s … We are currently booking for New Year’s Eve dinner. Inside.

“If this interests you, please let us know as soon as possible. If you have enough interest, we will contact you back to secure a reservation. Please keep this discreet, but tell all your friends.”
