Last year, DOOM Eternal and Animal Crossing: New Horizons both released on the same day, March 20th. Inspired by this minor connection, fans of the two franchises began sharing the art of a friendship online between Isabelle, Animal Crossing, and Doom Slayer. Both Bethesda and Nintendo are aware of this art of the fans and have even encouraged it! To celebrate the beginning of 2021, Bethesda made things a little more formal by sharing a picture of Nendoroid figures for Doom Slayer and Isabelle playing happily together with the “new happy horizons” caption. It’s a fun way to ring in the New Year and made the fans of the friendship quite happy!
Bethesda’s tweet can be found embedded below. The same image and message were shared by the official Twitter account DOOM.

It will be interesting to see if the friendship between Doom Slayer and Isabelle is recognized or not in a real game. Although it would be far too stupid in a DOOM or Animal Crossing game, there is only one place it could work: Super Smash Bros. last. Doom Slayer has long been rumored about the game and seems even more likely as a result of Microsoft’s acquisition of Bethesda. The publisher already has two fighters in the game, and companies like Capcom, Konami and Square Enix all have three representatives, so it would not be out of the question. Isabelle being a character that can be played in Final, it’s not hard to imagine how much fans would like to see the pair actually appear together!
For now, the friendship between Isabelle and Doom Slayer will simply have to live on through these little acknowledgments between the two companies and the fan art that made it a thing in the first place. There is something to be said for the way fans made this connection between the two franchises and the way it went from a simple joke almost a year ago, to a recurring connection between the two companies. Even if nothing comes of it, it’s nice to see the influence that fans can have on the games!
