Bears interested in Duke Staley of the Eagles

Duke Staley he was an assistant to the Eagles for 10 seasons, but the franchise’s back coach landed on the Bears radar.

The Bears are interested in HC’s former NFL candidate Adam Jahns of The Athletic tweets. While Staley arrived in Philly before Doug Pederson, worked with Matt Nagyformer colleague of bosses for five seasons.

The Eagles will likely bring in a number of new assistants after hiring Colts OC Nick Sirianni as Pederson’s replacement. Staley has been on the radar for the work landed by Sirianni, but does not seem to gain much traction during searches in Philadelphia. He was also moved to Philly’s OC position when the team promoted Mike Groh in 2018.

Nagy saw two of his offensive assistants – coach QBs Dave Ragone and back coach Charles London – Defective Falcons this week. London will be the new QB coach in Atlanta, who will work under the new Falcons OC Ragone. Nagy will have to replace these employees, and Staley has extensive experience as an offensive staff.

A 2013 RB coach in Philadelphia, Staley began his career in quality control two years earlier. He worked under Pederson, Chip Kelly and Andy Reid. The Eagles put him in charge as head coach during Pederson’s fight with COVID-19 last summer. But with Sirianni entering, it is unclear whether Staley remains in the Eagles’ plans or whether he would like to continue working as a position coach with another new Eagles HC.
