The names of the leagues have changed, as have many of the affiliates, but Minor League baseball will be in hundreds of North American communities by 2021.
Major League Baseball announced a new plan for affiliate baseball on Friday, with 120 minor league teams joining the new Professional Development League (PDL). In total, the system includes 179 teams in 17 leagues, covering 43 US states and four Canadian provinces. Including the Arizona Fall League and Gulf Coast League, there will be 209 clubs in 19 leagues, which will appear in a total of 44 US states and four Canadian provinces.
The different leagues will be the American Association, Atlantic League, Border League and Pioneer League.
