BARCELONA – Leo Messi sat in the stands, well protected from the cold, to witness from there the last disaster in 2020 to forget. The year that started with a disappointing draw (2-2) against Espanyol ended with worse feelings against Eibar.
From Valverde to Koeman, Barça remain lost in mediocrity, unable to tie a series of victories that would give them the opportunity to win the right to consider any possibility of abandoning this disastrous role.
In 15 league matches, Barcelona have already left 20 points on the road and it is not unreasonable to imagine that if the club were not in this intermediate situation, led by a manager until the elections of January 24 (if they arrive celebrated), Ronald Koeman’s figure would be highly questionable.
It would not be at all surprising to imagine that the Dutchman could be fired given some figures that show the worst Barça in decades. And that, beyond the table, it offers almost nothing on the field.
Messi will continue at Barça until the end of the season and, he assured in his last television interview, will decide his future based on the feelings he has in this second part of the season … But, seeing what has been seen, he would be an extraordinary exercise in generosity to believe that the Argentine is willing to stay in a club broken by all four sides and that he wanders without football.
Koeman is an interventionist coach. Change systems, change players, vary schemes, but don’t hit the key. He proves it insistently, but neither the team responds, nor luck accompanies him … And the team continues to fall without remission.
If Atlético and Real Madrid beat Getafe and Elche on Wednesday, they will already lose ten points over a Barça that will be caught in the fight with Real Sociedad, Sevilla and Villarreal for sending to a second team, which in their case is a real failure.
Barça does not take off. In fact, he shoots as if he hadn’t been mentioned in a league he lost in December. The dream of the title, at this moment, is only a chimera. A complete disaster.
