I realize every day that it’s complete Baldur’s Gate 3 the experience hasn’t come out yet, but we get there. Today, developer Larian dropped the fourth patch for Divinity: Original Sin 2 continuation/Baldur’s gate sort-continue, which he calls “The biggest patch so far.” Special features include druid class, loaded dice to keep you from making critical failures all the time, and new corpses to communicate with if you’re interested in this sort of thing.

The Druid is definitely the centerpiece here. If you play as one, you gain the ability to turn into a whole mess of animals, including a terrible wolf, a bear, a cat, a raven and a spider. In most games, they would work as simple combat modifiers, but in BG3, new forms mean alternative crossing options, the ability to talk to animals and new search results. Moreover, the first act in the main story of the game practically revolves around a circle of druids, which means that if you are a druid alone, the story will be radically different.

Other features are smaller, but still impressive. Loaded dice prevent you from going on the lines of hyper-lucky or hyper-unhappy throws when engaging in dialogues or taking action. It seems useful, given how many times I’ve reloaded rescues of frustration due to some pretty bad roles. That being said, if you want pure RNG, you can disable the feature.

The Speaks with the Dead ability has also received a major upgrade, adding superb cinemas and, of course, more corpses. Larian points out that if you get lost because you’re not paying attention to the story and you’re just killing everyone, now you can only talk about their scary remains. How fun!

There are also a lot of graphical and quality of life improvements, so people who like to look at things and be alive should like that, respectively. The patch is now available on Steam, GOG and Stadia – the last one you can only use if you know the spell Talk to the dead in real life.
