Azar tells the Department of Health staff that his wife has COVID-19: “Mild symptoms, but otherwise they are fine”

Secretary of Health and Human Services Alex Azar told his staff on Thursday night that his wife had contracted the coronavirus and was suffering from minor symptoms.

Azar informed his staff in an e-mail that his wife Jennifer gave positive results for the virus, according to Politico.

“Today, my family found out that my wife Jennifer tested positive for Covid-19,” he wrote, adding that he followed health instructions and immediately quarantined his symptoms.

Azar’s wife initially received a negative test result from an instant test, but later her symptoms were confirmed by a molecular test, Politico reported.

“I will carry out the duties of my office while strictly following the CDC guidelines for key workers, continuing to practice social distance, wearing a mask and monitoring for any symptoms,” Azar said in an email. “In addition, I have been tested every day and will be tested every day until the end of the exposure period.”
