Police in Fargo, North Dakota, say they positively identified the ax-wielding suspect in the vandalism of the offices of US Senator John Hoeven (RN.D.).
Friday night surveillance video showed a masked man walking up a flight of stairs to the closed office door, using an ax to smash the window and prying the safety glass off the frame before quietly walking away.
The Hoeven office is located near the Skywalk in downtown Fargo, a glass-enclosed pedestrian walkway connecting two buildings on North Broadway Drive.
A Hoeven spokesperson did not immediately respond to a request for comment from NBC News. Calls to his offices in Fargo and Washington went unanswered.
Fargo police wrote on Facebook that a report on the suspect will be forwarded to the state attorney upon completion.
The Cass County attorney, who was reached by phone on Wednesday, confirmed to NBC News that they had not yet received the case report from Fargo police.
