Avelo, the new Houston-based airline, is launching $ 19 flights

HOUSTON, Texas – A new Houston-based low-cost airline has announced it will launch commercial flights from a Los Angeles airport.

Avelo Airlines said on Thursday that it will start flying on April 28 to 11 destinations from Hollywood Burbank Airport. It has one-way rates starting at $ 19.

Avelo’s inaugural routes focus on smaller California airports. Other destinations include Oregon, Colorado and Montana.

The carrier will fly a Boeing 737.

Avelo rates do not include change fees or call center fees for customers who choose to make reservations by phone.

Avelo was initiated by a longtime airline director, who believes there is room for another low-cost carrier, in addition to several budget airlines already on the market.

“There are too few seats in the United States offered by low-cost carriers. That’s why we think the opportunity is huge,” said Andrew Levy, president and CEO of Avelo. “Customers want a very cheap way to get from point A to point B.”

While Avelo calls Houston his corporate home, he did not immediately express plans to add any of the city’s airports as destinations.

While Houstonians will not be able to save major dollars at ultra-low rates, Avelo offers a number of jobs based outside the city. If you are looking for a job, you can check Avelo’s open position on his website.
