“Avatar” is again the highest grossing film of all time.

Over the weekend, James Cameron’s scientific epic was re-released in China and garnered enough ticket sales to surpass “Avengers: Endgame” for registration.

“Avatar” first became the best-selling global version of all time in 2010, when it usurped Cameron’s “Titanic.” In 2019, “Avengers: Endgame” won the title with a box office draw of $ 2.797 billion.

As of Saturday, the “Avatar” ticket has exceeded $ 2.802 billion, allowing it to regain its crown.

“These two film titans have been fighting at the box office on Mount Olympus for many years,” said Paul Dergarabedian, a senior press analyst at Comscore. “As ‘Avatar’ once again takes the crown, the importance of the experience on the big screen both in terms of its cultural impact and, of course, its revenue-generating power is brought to a greater emphasis.”

The directors of “Endgame”, Joe and Anthony Russo, went on social media to congratulate Cameron.

“Putting your glove back,” they wrote in the post.

Originally part of the relaunch approved by China Film Film in 2020, the 2009 science epic remained in Disney’s safe during the ongoing pandemic.

While China has managed to regain some ticket sales in recent months, the launch of its new successful features has slowed following the Chinese New Year holidays. Adding “Avatar” to its cinemas is a way to increase participation and give operators a much-needed boost at a time when new movies aren’t being released.

“We are proud to have reached this milestone, but Jim and I are thrilled that the film has returned to theaters in these unprecedented times and we want to thank our Chinese fans for their support,” said producer Jon Landau. “We are working hard on the next Avatar movies and look forward to sharing the continuation of this epic story for years to come.”

The first new film in the Avatar franchise will be released in 2022. It will be one of five that will come in the next decade. Disney recently acquired “Avatar”, although the film had previously been authorized to build a plot in the Animal Kingdom theme park in Florida.

In 2019, Disney completed its business to acquire entertainment assets from 20th Century Fox, including James Cameron’s “Avatar”.

As it stands, Disney has the top five highest grossing movies of all time and eight of the top ten. In particular, “Titanic”, which is currently in third place, was a joint production between Paramount Pictures and 20th Century Fox. The other films are “Star Wars: The Force Awakens”, “The Avengers: Infinite War”, the 2019 live remake of “The Lion King”, “The Avengers” and “Frozen II”.
