Authorities in Abel Martínez’s office are former members of the Navy

Amílcar Rafael Soto Candelario and Carlos Edelmiro Rossó Peña, both wanted by the National Directorate for Drug Control (DNCD) this Friday in the office of Santiago Mayor Abel Martínez, were members of the Dominican Republic Navy.

For this reason, the entity issued a clarification after the versions that the individuals belong to it.

“The Dominican Republic Navy informs the public that Carlos E. Rossó Peña and Amílcar Rafael Soto Candelario are not members of the Dominican Republic Navy, as reported in various media and social networks,” he said.

The entity draws attention to the fact that both Rossó Peña, 48, and Soto Calendar, 46, were abolished by their appointments in 2008 and 2009, respectively, by presidential decrees of the President of then Leonel Fernández.

“Rossó Peña, his appointment as a Navy officer was canceled by the Executive on August 13, 2008. In the same vein, the appointment of Amílcar Rafael Soto Candelario was canceled by the Executive, his appointment as a Navy officer on January 29, 2009,” he said. read part of the statement.

Both are wanted for violating Law 50-88 on Drugs and Controlled Substances; 631-16 on weapons and ammunition; 155-17 on money laundering from illicit drug trafficking and other “serious crimes”.
