Atlético Paranaense won by a narrow margin over Ecuadorian Aucas in a duel for the first match in Group D of the South American Cup-2021, played on Tuesday, at the height of Quito.
The Brazilian team won the stadium at Gonzalo Pozo Ripalda with a goal by Erick Conrado in the 38th minute.
The goal that put the “hurricane” in front started with a corner kick, which Conrado took with a strong header, which after hitting a stick, became the visitor’s score.
Aucas, hit by COVID-19 infections on campus, had poor performance during the meeting. Not even the height of the city of Quito, a city located at over 2,800 meters above sea level, did not help stop Hurricane Curitiba.
Paranaense in the first minutes showed a good command of the ball. The Brazilians did not give the ball to the opponent and reduced Aucas’ attacking ability.
Aucas and Paranaense, who make up Group D along with Venezuelan Metropolitano and Peruvian Melgar, will meet again in May in Brazil. (D)
