Atletico vs Chelsea Giroud punishes Atletico’s approach

Atletico Madrid chances to progress in Champions League they received a blow because they were beaten 1-0 by Chelsea in the first leg of their last draw in Bucharest.
The efficient hosts developed a conservative game plan in the Romanian capital, sitting deep and absorbing the pressure Thomas Tuchelhis part.
It was Olivier Giroud which made the difference, however, with a winning goal bright enough to decide the match at night.

Giroud’s winner as a thing of beauty, as is often the case with the winner of the French World Cup. With Atletico’s solid block, something special was needed to win a away goal against Chelsea, the bike hitting being one of the goals of the season in the Champions League so far.

After a series of disappointing recent results, Atletico failed to impress again. Their defensive tactics almost did the job, but Simeone’s game plan was unraveled as soon as Chelsea found a goal. It is a sign that their watertight nature in the back is declining.

Kieran Trippier has been sidelined for several weeks, but his suspension is still felt by Atletico. Simeone did not find a solution on the right side of the bottom, Marcos Llorente being the most recent to try his hand at this position. The change of position of the Spaniard did not do the game well.

The referee showed Felix Brych the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge. Mason Mount was shown a yellow card for Joao Felix. The difference between Spanish and European football is obvious.
