Athletics wins the eighth game in a row, sweeps the Tigers

Even in the days when the offense starts with a slow start, it never feels like the A’s came out of the game in the last half, with their firepower up and down. As catcher Sean Murphy demonstrated on Sunday, only one swing is needed.

An A offense, which was thwarted by Tigers’ left Matthew Boyd for most of the day, was eventually triggered by Murphy’s explosion on his plate. His tying solo shot Boyd in the eighth – Murphy’s first of the year – triggered a late rally for A, which was completed in the ninth by Mitch Moreland. The veteran reached the base of an error to bring home Matt Olson for a 3-2 victory.

The win ended a four-game game in Detroit and extended Oakland’s best winning streak to eight games.
