AstraZeneca claims to have found the “winning formula” for its vaccine

London.- The executive director of AstraZeneca, Pascal Soriot, says that the laboratory has found the “winning formula” for its vaccine against COVID-19 to be as effective as those produced by Pfizer / BioNTech, with 95%, and Modern, with 94%.

“We believe we have found the winning formula to achieve an effectiveness that, after two doses, is as high as all the others,” Soriot told the Sunday Times about the doses his company is developing with Oxford University.

However, Soriot declined to provide further details, expecting to publish the results of the new tests soon.

AstraZeneca and Oxford published in November the preliminary results of their clinical study in two groups: one received two full doses of vaccine, with a result of 62% efficacy, while the other received half a dose, followed by a full dose one month later, with an effectiveness of 90%.

According to the Sunday Times, the vaccine from Oxford and AstraZeneca – much cheaper and easier to keep than the one from Moderna and Pfizer – will receive the approval of the British regulator this week, so it is expected to be able to start inoculating in the first days of January.

Soriot believes his vaccine “should be effective” with the new strains of the virus, but admits that “they can’t be sure”, so further studies will be needed.

Coincidentally, the pharmacist and the Oxford lab are already working on new versions of the vaccine if needed.
