Assassin’s Creed Valhalla was a huge success for Ubisoft. The open world viking adventure launched in November last year on both PS5 and PS4. Not long after, the French publisher announced that Valhalla enjoyed the “biggest release” in the history of the series. And earlier this week, Ubisoft confirmed that it had the best quarter financially – a huge turnover that was driven by the success of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.
Given all this, it makes sense for Ubisoft to all-in on Valhalla – and apparently, that’s exactly what it will do. In its latest earnings call, the company reiterated that post-launch support for the game is a priority, saying Valhalla will “benefit from a stronger and longer post-launch program” than Assassin’s Creed Odyssey.
To recap, the post-launch Odyssey support was pretty stellar. It received two solid expansions (each split into three episodes) and lots of free content updates that added requested features, new missions, and more. By comparison, Valhalla started pretty slowly – but it’s fair to assume that the ongoing coronavirus pandemic had an impact on the developer’s plans (as well as the overall bugginess of the game).
That being said, February should be a big month for Valhalla. The “River Raid” update of the game is set to appear this month, bringing a whole new activity to the foggy shores of medieval England. An error fixing list is also in the works, and at this point we expect it to partially give it all up.
Beyond that, the first expansion of the title, “Wrath of the Druids” is still being launched this spring. We should hear more about this soon.
In any case, if Valhalla manages to get past the post-launch Odyssey roadmap, fans should rejoice. As it stands, the Assassin’s Creed community seems to be a little divided in the direction of the game; there has recently been a bit of shouting about the dubious title microtransaction store. Hopefully these received updates fix things.
