Assassin’s Creed Valhalla takes Christmas No. 1, while Cyberpunk 2077 falls in third place | Graphics in the UK box

This year was a tight race for Christmas No. 1, with Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed Valhalla appearing as the first physical game of the period.

This is the first time Assassin’s Creed has claimed No. 1 for Christmas (and indeed the first time for Ubisoft) and only the third time a non-FIFA or Call of Duty game has reached the top of the charts in 15 years (source : GfK Entertainment).

The game increased by 66% in sales due to price reductions before Christmas. The game defeated Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, which was in second place after managing to sell as many copies in the last week as in the previous week. It is the first time that the Black Ops sub-series fails to claim Christmas no.

Last week’s No. 1 spot was Cyberpunk 2077, and the RPG fell 80% in sales this week and drops to number 3. The game has received extremely negative press in recent days due to its poor technical performance on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. However, it is worth mentioning that an 80% drop in sales is not extremely unusual for a game like this. Indeed, other games that provided great pre-orders, such as The Last of Us: Part Two in the summer and Assassin’s Creed Valhalla in November, both fell by 80% and 70% in the second week, respectively.

The negative press has probably had some impact on game sales this week, but most of the decline is to be expected.

CD Projekt’s new game prevents FIFA 21, which has to settle for fourth place, despite a 40% increase in sales. Meanwhile, Animal Crossing: New Horizons is in 5th place, with an 11% drop in sales, the first drop in sales in more than a month. Only 9,000 units separate Animal Crossing at number 5 and Assassin’s Creed Valhalla at number 1.

The entire chart is based exclusively on physical retail sales.

Elsewhere, there have been a number of recent increases in sales on all charts, partly due to lower prices. Spider-Man: Miles Morales climbs to 6th place after a 45% increase in sales, Ring Fit Adventure returns to the Top Ten in 9th place after a jump in sales of 155%, and Super Mario 3D All-Stars ranks tenth with a 44% increase in sales. Outside the Top Ten, Immortals: Fenyx Rising jumps to 12th with 107% sales growth, Watch Dogs Legion is 14th due to 98% sales growth, and Carnival Games returns to 35th with 499% sales growth . There were also offers for PS4 games, which meant that The Last of Us: Part Two returned to 30th place with a 374% increase in sales, and Ghost of Tsushima reached number 34 after sales increased by 208%. %.
