Assassin’s Creed Valhalla gains new abilities, but only if you disconnect your console from the internet

A few weeks ago, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla players saw a handful of new skills in the game’s elaborate skill tree. Then those skills disappeared.

Following ValhallaS update in mid-December, which precipitated Yuletide Festival Event, each of the game’s three skill trees (Bear, Raven, Wolf) seemed to extend by two knots. The first on each tree was a copy of the node “Let your fate guide your way”, which allows you to play to allocate your qualification points; the second was a real ability. The Bear Tree has received the Fight Ready ability, which gives you a full adrenaline slot at the beginning of each fight. The Wolf Tree could unlock Arrow Looter, increasing the chance of stealing arrows from archers. The Raven tree received Assassin Carry, an ability that allows players to automatically pick up a corpse after an assassin. All these three new lines branched directly from the city center Valhallaskill tree, so you didn’t have to pour dozens of points into each branch to clear a path and unlock them.

The catch is that these three skills do not always appear in Valhallathe qualification tree.

None of the three abilities were mentioned in patch notes for the December update. Some players I saw them appear briefly before disappearing during subsequent game sessions. Today, at least on the Xbox Series X, I can still see the ineffective branched nodes of “destiny” outside the center Valhallathe skill tree, while the three new skills are wrongsing.

I can cause them to reappear by disconnecting the console from the internet and restarting the game, at which point I am greeted by a notification that the Yule Festival is over. Connecting my console to the internet purifies them again. Some players Say they lost any qualification points allocated afterwards. Mine, for what it’s worth, has been reimbursed. When I return online, the refunded qualification points are automatically applied to any of the new skills I have unlocked.

Basically, if your console is connected to the internet, you can’t access these skills. If it’s disconnected, you can.

When asked about this issue, Ubisoft acknowledged that some players can access these skills, but said that “they are not yet ready for launch” and advised players to play online, if possible, to “prevent any game problem ”.

The truth is, you don’t lose much. None of the abilities change the game terribly (although Assassin Carry is, of course, a quality of life upgrade). But they suggest great things for the store Valhallait is already a Byzantine network of skills. Why include a “fate” node for a single ability? Why do these new skills appear after the apparent end of the Yuletide Festival?

The Yuletide Festival ends on January 7th. Ubisoft has not announced specific release dates for Valhallathe two announced expansions, The wrath of the Druids and The siege of Parisnor did they present details of new skills that could come into play alongside those campaigns.
