Arsenal legend Tony Adams has added to growing criticism of Willian, who fights with others, claiming that Arsene Wenger would never have signed him.
The 32-year-old arrived at Emirates with a free transfer in the summer after leaving Chelsea, but failed to make an impact, with Mikel Arteta’s team continuing to slip on the league table.
Willian’s misery continued with another inferior manifestation of Everton’s defeat, and Adams questioned the decision to recruit his former club.

He told Stadium Astro: “It’s a lazy recruit for me. You have to question the recruitment process at Arsenal at this time.
“We had some great players and great principles under Arsene Wenger. He’s gone for a young player, you wouldn’t even consider Willian if Arsene were still in control at the club.
“For him, a physiotherapist over 30 years old, from a physiological point of view, he does not think that he can make the player act constantly at the levels that Arsene would like to achieve, he would not even would have been on the agenda.

“This is a simple recommendation of the agent, he has the same agent as the sports director [Edu] so it’s an easy option for him, a three-year contract. I think it’s a very poor recruitment.
“As a coach, you were given this player, you wanted this player. You don’t have to play them. They don’t play [Mesut] Ozil, one of the greatest creative players out there.
“And to have someone like Willian, one shot in 12 games. I’m like, “Hold on [Joe] Willock there, “we have [Gabriel] Martinelli back there. You have other options.
