Arkansas governor will not endorse Trump’s offer

WASHINGTON, UNITED STATES. –The governor of Arkansas Asa Hutchinson stated Sunday that he would not endorse a candidacy of Donald Trump if the former president decides to run again in 2024, saying that “it is time” to give way to other voices within the Republican Party.

“No I wouldn’t,” Hutchinson replied when asked on the show, “State of the UnionFrom CNN if he were to back Trump back.

“He will have his vote, as a former president, but there are a lot of votes in the party,” added the governor.

Trump “shouldn’t be the one who defines our future, that’s something we should define ourselves.”

Hutchinson, after attack on Capitol on January 6, he had declared that the Trump administration should end. But Hutchinson did not join the voices calling for Trump’s resignation, arguing that impeachment was not a practical option.

The interview with Hutchinson aired just days after his cousin Jim Hendren, a state senator in Arkansas, announced he was leaving the Republican Party in the wake of the attack on the Capitol by Trump supporters.

On Sunday, Hutchinson praised the Trump family, especially Ivanka, saying he respected his cousin’s decision to pursue his political career as an independent. But Hutchinson said Republicans will have “a bright future” if they stick to conservative principles and not “personalities.”
