TUCSON, Ariz. – Arizonans over the age of 55 will now be eligible to receive the vaccine in some parts of the state.
The Arizona Department of Health announced Monday that the two mass vaccination sites at Phoenix Stadiums will begin scheduling appointments for the younger age group. Previously, only those aged 65 and over could schedule a meeting.
AZDHS says 50,000 new vaccination meetings will be available at State Farm Stadium and Phoenix Municipal Stadium this week. Registration for these meetings will open on Tuesday at noon.
The state health department also said it would allow local health departments to reduce the eligibility age when 55 percent of the previous age group were vaccinated or when they believe there is no longer a demand for the vaccine. Workers who are considered “essential” will continue to be offered a vaccination schedule through their employers.
