Arizona Health Director Dr. Cara Christ Urges Preventive Measures Regarding Home Order

GLENDALE, AZ – Dr. Cara Christ, director of the Arizona Department of Health Services, spoke with ABC15 on Tuesday morning about the state’s coronavirus response and vaccinations.

“We’ve worked to make sure everyone knows how to prevent transmission and to make sure we have room for Arizonans to be treated,” Dr. Christ said in response to her belief that Arizona did enough during the pandemic. .

“We know that every case is a person,” said Dr. Christ. “We mourn every death … the best thing we can do is take those preventative measures.”

When asked if she would suggest Governor Doug Ducey a home stay order to prevent the spread, Dr. Christ said other states that have implemented home stay measures are facing the spread of the coronavirus, such as Arizona, which does not. has implemented this type of policy since the spring of 2020.

Dr. Christ also said he was “a huge advocate” for having students in classrooms, but stressed the importance of having everyone safe, including teachers.

“As a mother, I want my children to go to school,” said Dr. Christ.

Dr. Christ said she does not personally know anyone who has died from coronavirus complications and that her family has been taking precautions since the beginning of the pandemic.

The state provided another 40,000 doses of coronavirus vaccines, which allowed health officials to open the vaccination site at State Farm Stadium, Dr. Christ said. As of Tuesday, the site is officially open to those eligible to receive a vaccine and are at full capacity.

ADHS says that as of 12:01 a.m., State Farm Stadium has managed to administer between 200 and 300 vaccines per hour. To date, more than 165,000 people have received the vaccine, including more than 12,000 people who have received both doses to complete the series.
