The Archbishop of Santo Domingo, Monsignor Francisco Ozoria Acosta, said that if an abortion is approved, the death penalty is legitimate.
“We cannot approve the death penalty and what do we do with children who have been born? Death penalty. If the reasons are approved, it is legitimate, then we approve the death penalty “, said Ozoria when he was approached by the press regarding the inclusion in the Criminal Code of the three reasons for which abortion is authorized.
With this statement, Ozoria assured that the Catholic Church maintains its position in defense of life.
“Even if I say what I say and do what the congressmen do, we will continue to stand firm in the defense of life, because life cannot be negotiated for money or power, life must be respected from conception to natural death,” the archbishop added.
He also stated that, following the “principle of saving both lives”, if the mother or child dies during an operation, there is no culprit because they tried to save both lives.
These statements were given at the opening of a photographic exhibition in honor of Nicolás de Jesús Cardenal López Rodríguez, whom he described as an authentic man.
According to Ozoria, due to his health conditions, López Rodríguez could not attend the event in which a room with his name was inaugurated, in the Octavio Cardenal Beras Rojas Library of the Catholic University of Santo Domingo.
