Approximately 6,300 received lower doses of COVID-19 vaccine than recommended at Oakland Coliseum

OAKLAND, Calif. – About 6,300 people who received a COVID-19 vaccination at Oakland Coliseum last week may have received just under the dose recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, but are not advised to repeat the dose, California Department of Public Health said Monday.

People who received a dose of Pfizer vaccine on Feb. 28 after 4:30 p.m. and on March 1 between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. could have received slightly lower doses, the CDPH said in a statement.

The recommended dose of CDC vaccine is 0.3 milliliters, but doses of 0.15 milliliters or more are still sufficient and would not require the recipient to repeat the dose, according to the CDPH.

Recipients of affected vaccines at the Coliseum could have received doses of 0.22 milliliters, “which is within the limits set by the CDC,” CDPH said in a statement.

Vaccine on-site staff, which is operated jointly by the California Office of Emergency Services and the Federal Emergency Management Agency, corrected the dosing discrepancy on March 1, according to CDPH.

People who received the first dose during the affected window on 28 February and 1 March should continue to receive the second dose about three weeks after the first dose.

CDPH officials also sent a letter to those who received slightly lower doses, informing them of the dosing difference and reminding them of the two-dose vaccine schedule.

Individuals with questions about the dose of COVID-19 vaccine they have received can contact CDPH at [email protected] or by calling (833) 422-4255.
