Appointments for United Center vaccines open Thursday, more than 100,000 COVID photo spots available

CHICAGO (WLS) – As the mass vaccination site outside the United Center will open a week on Wednesday, Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot said people will be able to start registering for meetings on Thursday.

A total of 110,000 meetings will be made available, and the first meetings will open on Thursday at 8:30 am for seniors.

“This is a complete call to seniors, their family members or anyone else in the senior network and support system to sign them up for these appointments, before they are taken,” said Mayor Lori Lightfoot.

To register for an appointment, visit www.zocdoc.com/vaccine or call the multilingual hotline (312) 746-4835 from 8 am to 8 pm Monday through Saturday and from 8 am to 4 pm Sunday.

“I really hope there’s a dedicated slot for the phone,” said Courtney Hedderman, associate director of state at AARP Illinois. “That will make a big difference to people.”

After the senior registration period, anyone eligible for a vaccine as part of Phase 1B + can begin scheduling appointments at 4pm on Sunday, March 7th.

United Center will open for a limited number of meetings on March 9, before a full opening on March 10. The site will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. seven days a week.

Officials said that initially only walk-up vaccinations will be offered, but there are plans to add a drive-through component. The city works with community counselors and groups to get people to sign up and make appointments.

“One of the reasons we really wanted to keep the meeting time open until Sunday was to offer if the appointments aren’t all fulfilled by then, really thinking about that weekend when religious groups meet. can gather and encourage them to think and ways to help them enroll seniors, “said Dr. Allison Arwady.

On Friday, 222 U.S. Army soldiers will arrive in Chicago to prepare for their mission to deliver up to 6,000 doses a day. UC will administer the Pfizer vaccine, so recipients must return three weeks later for the second dose.

The city said the new Johnson & Johnson single-dose vaccine will be used this month to vaccinate the airport and other transportation workers, as well as those in the manufacturing industry and people who are away.

“Our goal is to get these people at highest risk in terms of hospitalizations and deaths, and these settings with the highest risk of vaccinations,” said Dr. Arwady.

Currently, there are another half a million seniors in Cook County who have not been vaccinated.

“In order for us to truly rise above this terrible pandemic, we need to vaccinate our seniors, as quickly and as humanly as possible, without shortcuts there,” said Mayor Lightfoot.

The mayor encourages those who are technology experts and have access to computers to register online and leave phones for those who need to call for meetings.

Attorney Aurora Health confirmed that it is partnering with the city on a potential mass vaccination site near Wrigley Field, but declined to share specific details.

While the United Center’s mass vaccination site is run by the federal government, it would be run by the Advocate.

HEALTH STATEMENT OF AURORA LAWYER:
As a community leader in health, we are firmly committed to doing everything we can to make the vaccination process as quick, fair and safe as possible.
We are proud to collaborate on a possible Wrigley Field mass vaccination site, which would potentially be authorized by the city of Chicago. If the site is designated and the supply of vaccines in the city becomes available, the Aurora Health lawyer would provide clinical staff and technical infrastructure.
This location is considered as it is a convenient option for non-car owners as it is easily accessible via CTA. This is part of our ongoing focus on partnership to ensure that people in disproportionately affected communities have access to the vaccine because supplies are available.
We continue to believe that the vaccine is the best way to end this pandemic and we continue to use current, very limited consumption for the most vulnerable patients over the age of 65.
