Apple’s security fix means it’s time to update your devices

A new set released by security fixes from Apple is “recommended for all users”, ie that for anyone with an iPhone, iPad, Mac or Apple Watch, it’s probably time for an update.

According to Apple, the patch will fix a security flaw that left WebKit – the engine that powers Apple’s Safari browser – vulnerable to memory corruption. Once users have visited a web page that contains malicious code, the vulnerability could be exploited by attackers, who could then access the affected device and write malicious code on it.

If security fixes are applied, iPhone and iPad users will do so be update to iOS and iPadOS 14.4.1, watchOS users would be updated to 7.3.2 and macOS Big Sur would be updated to version 11.2.3.

Despite being reported by Google and Microsoft, the errors are not believed to have been actively exploited – as opposed to the three separate zero-day security flaws. discovered in January. All three previous bugs had was “actively exploited,” Apple reported at the time, by hackers who found a way to link the three vulnerabilities together to access the underlying iPhone software.

Apple users can secure their devices by accessing the page System preferences, and then clicking Software update to see if one is available.
