Apple Watch Series 7 can bring blood glucose monitoring, the patent describes the technology

Apple could bring a new health-focused technology to its watch, which will come later this year. The new Apple Watch Series 7 watch can monitor blood sugar without drawing blood. And a new patent now shows how this technology could be implemented. The U.S. Patto and Trademark Office (USPTO) patent application entitled “Terahertz Spectrosopy and Imaging in Dynamic Environments with Performance Enhancements Using Ambient Sensors” provides that the iPhone manufacturer may use absorption spectroscopy to obtain noninvasive blood glucose readings.

It is also mentioned that the technology could use terahertz electromagnetic radiation instead of using light to pass through the body to detect “gas, health / quality of liquid or solid materials”. But the patent also mentions a potential problem. The implementation of the technology could lead to the loss of water resistance of the Watch. Blood glucose reading must be accurate. If the reading is stopped a little, the user may end up taking too much insulin and cause a hypoglycemic or low blood sugar attack, reports Phonearena.

Moreover, the technology could mean a faster battery discharge than before and if the watch can fit all the components. In all this it would mean an increase in the price of the device.

The report adds that the same technology can be used to detect skin cancer and other related problems. However, while the patent does not necessarily mean that Apple will definitely bring blood glucose monitors to the Apple Watch, it does mean that the company is at least thinking of working on it. For what it’s worth, Samsung is also expected to bring a blood glucose monitor to its next smartwatch that is expected to arrive later this year.
