Apple today released the new 3C39 firmware designed for AirPods Max, marking the second firmware update that high-end headphones have received since their launch in December.
The new 3C39 firmware replaces the 3C16 launch firmware available on the day of the irAirPods Max release.
Apple does not provide details about what is included in the new firmware updates, so we do not know what bug fixes or improvements the new firmware could offer. Battery life issues have been reported with “AirPods Max”, so updating the firmware may resolve this issue.
There is no standard way to update the firmware on AirPods, AirPods Pro or AirPods Max, but connecting AirPods Max to an iPhone or iPad while connected to a power source may force the update.
You can check the firmware on AirPods Max by following these steps:
- Connect AirPods Max to your iOS device.
- Open the Settings app.
- Touch General.
- Touch About.
- Touch “AirPods”.
- Look at the number next to “Firmware version”.
In the past, updates for AirPods Pro and AirPods have included performance improvements, bug fixes, and feature changes, so if we find noticeable changes after installing firmware updates, we’ll update this article.
