Apple today released macOS Big Sur 11.2, the second major update to the OSmacOS Big Sur operating system released in November. MacOS Big Sur 11.2 comes more than a month after the release of macOS Big Sur 11.1.
The new macOS Big Sur 11.2 update can be downloaded for free on all eligible Macs using the Software Update section of System Preferences.
According to notes released by Apple, macOS Big Sur 11.2 addresses several errors, such as an issue that could cause external external displays to display a black screen when connected to a M1 Mac mini using an HDMI to DVI converter and a problem which caused iCloud Drive to turn off when you turn off the CloudiCloud Drive Desktop & Documents Folders option.
Apple’s full release notes for the update are available below:
OSmacOS Big Sur 11.2 improves Bluetooth reliability and fixes the following issues:
– External displays may display a black screen when connected to a Mac mini (M1, 2020) using an HDMI to DVI converter
– Changes to Apple ProRAW photos in the Photos application may not be saved
– CloudiCloud Drive may stop after disabling CloudiCloud Drive Desktop & Documents Folders
– System preferences cannot be unlocked when you enter the administrator password
– The globe key cannot display the Emoji panel and symbols when pressed
Although not mentioned in the release notes, one of the beta OSmacOS Big Sur 11.2 removed a feature that allowed Apple applications to bypass third-party firewalls, security tools, and VPN applications. OSmacOS Big Sur 11 has included a ContentFilterExclusionList that allows Apple applications such as the App Store, Maps, iCloud, and more to avoid the firewall and VPN applications that users have installed.
These apps could not filter or inspect traffic for some built-in Apple apps, and the functionality was removed. Apple applications will now be compatible with VPN applications and will no longer be able to bypass firewalls and other security tools.
MacOS Big Sur is a major update that brings a complete redesign for Mac, along with new features designed for M1 Macs. Full details of all the new features in OSmacOS Big Sur can be found in our summary.
