Apple today released macOS Big Sur 11.2.2, the fourth update of the OSmacOS Big Sur operating system released in November. AcMacOS Big Sur 11.2.2 comes two weeks after the release of macOS Big Sur 11.2.1, a bug fix update.
The new macOS Big Sur 11.2.2 update can be downloaded for free on all eligible Macs using the Software Update section of System Preferences.
According to notes released by Apple, the macOS Big Sur update prevents damage to MacBook Pro 2019 or later and MacBook Air 2020 or later when connected to certain non-compliant powered USB-C hubs and docks.
There have been several reports of Reddit from Mac users who have connected USB-C hubs and docks to their machines, which has led to the operation of the machine. Affected Macs appear to remain blank and do not respond shortly after the dock is connected. Many of the users who encountered problems used hubs and docks that were not purchased from reputable companies.
Many of the complaints were from Mac M1 users who had a MacBook Pro or a “MacBook Air”, but Apple’s release notes suggest that other models were also affected.
