Apple launches iOS 14.4 and watchOS 7.3 later today

In this morning’s Black History Month announcement, Apple confirmed that iOS 14.4 and watchOS 7.3 will be released later today.

watchOS 7.3 extends the ECG application on Apple Watch Series 4 and later in Japan, Mayotte, Thailand and the Philippines, while iOS 14.4 introduces a notification on iPhone 12 models with non-original cameras. Both software updates also add support for a new “Unity” clock face based on the pan-African flag and contain several bug fixes.

Notes for iOS 14.4 launch candidates:

iOS 14.4 includes the following enhancements for ‌iPhone‌:
– Smaller QR codes can be recognized by the camera
– Bluetooth device type classification option in Settings for correctly identifying headphones for audio notifications
– Notifications for when the camera on unableiphone unable cannot be verified as a new, authentic Apple camera in ‌iPhone 12‌, iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max

This release also fixes the following issues:
– Image artifacts may appear in HDR photos taken with the iPhone 12 Pro
– The Fitness widget may not display updated activity data
– Typing may be delayed and word suggestions may not appear on the keyboard
– The keyboard may not appear in the correct language in Messages
– Audio stories in the CarPlay News app may not resume after they have been paused for voice guidance or Siri
– Enabling accessibility switch control may prevent answering phone calls from the lock screen

watchOS 7.3 includes new features, enhancements, and bug fixes, including:
– The face of the Unity watch – inspired by the colors of the pan-African flag, the shapes change throughout the day as you move, creating a unique face for you.
– Time to Walk for Apple Fitness + subscribers – an audio experience in the Workout app, where guests share inspiring stories as you go
– ECG application on Apple Watch Series 4 or later in Japan, Mayotte, Philippines and Thailand
– Irregular heart rate notifications in Japan, Mayotte, the Philippines, Taiwan and Thailand
– Fix an issue where the Control Center and Notification Center may not respond when Zoom is on

iPadOS 14.4 should be released later. Apple usually releases software updates around 10:00 Pacific Time / 13:00 Eastern Time.
