Apple is developing two versions of Mac Pro to succeed Mac Pro which was first launched in December 2019, according to a new report by Bloomberg.
The first updated acMac Pro is a direct successor to the current Mac Pro and will use the same design. It can also be equipped with Intel processors, rather than Apple silicon chips, and could be one of the only cars in the Mac range to still rely on Intel technology. Rumors suggest that most other cars switch to Apple silicon.
The second car will use Apple silicon chips and will be less than half the size of the current acMac Pro, placing it somewhere between the existing Mac Pro and the Mac mini. It will have an exterior mostly made of aluminum and Bloomberg suggests that it could “invoke nostalgia” for the Power Mac G4 Cube.
Apple is testing Apple’s high-performance 32-core silicon chips for its desktop computers, and 16- to 32-core graphics options are also in the works. However, for its state-of-the-art machines, Apple is developing GPUs with 64 and 128 cores more expensive, which would be several times faster than the graphics options that Apple uses from AMD.
It is not known when the two new “Mac Pro” models could be released. Apple is working on the transition of its Mac range to Apple silicon chips, a process that is expected to take up to two years. In a previous report, Bloomberg said the launch of Apple’s silicon “Mac Pro” was planned to be launched by 2022.
