It seems that Apple intends to launch an iMac line redesigned with Apple Silicon chips, two new Mac Pro models and a cheaper display in 2021.
The redesigned iMac is said to be reminiscent of Pro Display XDR, with thinner frames and no metal chin, sources said Bloomberg. The redesign, the first company since 2012, is said to move the iMac away from a curved back to a flatter back section.
Sources said the iMac update will be Apple’s biggest visual redesign in 2021. There are two versions of the developing iMac, codenamed J456 and J457, that will replace the current 21.5-inch iMac devices and the new iMac devices. 27 inches.
Both will use a new generation of Apple Silicon processors from the first part, which will also appear in the MacBook Pro 2021 range. Apple’s first Mac silicon piece, M1, debuted in 2020.
Rumors in 2020 suggested that the company was working on a new iMac design with the “iPad Pro design language” and “Pro Display as bezels”. An iOS 14 icon apparently representing a refreshed iMac was also discovered in 2020.
Apple launched new iMac models in 2020, but they have kept the same old design of the 2012 range.
New Mac Pro models, cheaper Apple display
Along with the iMac, Apple is also working on a pair of new Mac Pro models. The first would appear identical to the current version released in 2019 and could continue to use Intel processors. The second variant, equipped with an Apple Silicon chip, could be about half the size and could have a design that “could invoke nostalgia for the Power Mac G4 Cube.” Bloomberg reported.
In November 2020, a report claimed that Apple was working on an even smaller refurbished Mac Pro device – although its processor type was unclear. A month later, another report claimed that Apple is developing much faster proprietary processors for its desktops and professional notebooks, including a new Mac Pro.
It is also said that the company is working on an external monitor at lower prices as part of the new desktop efforts for the Mac. No other information on the monitor is available except that it will be much cheaper than the $ 4,999 XDR Pro Display XDR.
