The rumor of Apple’s experiment to use its content offerings to promote its services now includes two new non-fiction series entitled The line.

The first is a series of six-part podcasts, which premieres today with three episodes currently available as of this writing. The podcast will be hosted and executive produced by Dan Taberski and will dig into the controversial acquittal of Navy Special Operations Chief Edward Gallagher, who was custody in 2018, after allegedly committing war crimes for brutal killing of an ISIS captive, among other alleged crimes, including posing with a photograph of a corpse.

In 2019, he was found controversially innocent of all charges, except one charge of posing with the body, a development that reaction generated from Navy SEAL who handed over Gallagher.

Both the podcast and the docuseries, which debut in the fall as a limited series in four parts on Apple TV +, will look at “the complicated realities involved in fighting a decades-long war, removing the layers around Gallagher’s alleged crimes,” Apple said in a statement Press release. Both series are produced by Jigsaw Productions. The series will include interviews with Gallagher and his wife, as well as 50 current and former special operations.

The fact that Apple offers this dual format which, in fact, cross-promotes its services is not a surprise. Bloomberg reported last year, Apple did a big podcast in part to promote their original Apple TV +. And that’s probably wise, given the slow start of the Apple TV + in the gate – in part due to the limited number of titles available at launch.
