Apple CEO Tim Cook said in an interview with “CBS This Morning” that anyone with a role in the US insurrection last week should be held accountable. Cook did not absolve President Donald Trump of this statement.
“I don’t think anyone is above the law,” Cook told Gayle King on CBS in a video on Tuesday. “I want to say that this is a great thing for our country, we are a country of the rule of law. I think that everyone who had a role in it must be responsible.”
Cook said the events were not something the country should just look forward to, although he eventually said “we need to move on”.
“I don’t think we should let her go,” Cook said. “I think it’s important to hold people accountable.”
Apple removed Parler, an alternative social media app, from the App Store on Saturday, after finding that it is used to spread calls of violence following the riots in the Chapter, violating its rules against unacceptable content.
Cook maintained a relatively close but balanced relationship with Trump during his tenure. While Cook criticized Trump’s key policies, such as his decision to end DACA, the Obama-era program that protects some immigrants from deportation and organized a fundraiser for Hillary Clinton in 2016, he managed to he gains Trump’s support more than the leaders of many other Big Tech companies have.
The relationship undoubtedly paid off, allowing Apple to repatriate cash at lower tax rates and exempt its products from tariffs on goods imported from China.
King said the interview with Cook was scheduled to reveal a “big announcement” on Wednesday, when he broadcasts the full interview. King said the ad is not about a new product.
