Apple plans to work with Hyundai for the upcoming Apple Car, according to a report by Korean website Korea Economic Daily.
The report suggests that Apple is in talks with Hyundai Motor Group to build an “Apple Car”. Apple is said to intend to work with Hyundai to produce electric vehicles and develop batteries due to the “enormous costs” of the technology and production facilities required.
Multiple previous rumors have suggested that Apple will work with a production partner to produce “Apple Car”, but so far it has not been known which manufacturer Apple could team up with. As the report mentions “negotiations”, no agreement may be reached yet, so Apple’s plans may change.
An Apple Car report earlier today from Bloomberg said that work on the project is still in its infancy and “far from the production stage” and no mention was made of Hyundai. Conformable Bloomberg, it will be at least five to seven years before an “Apple Car” is ready to launch.
update: In a statement to CNBC, Hyundai confirmed that he is in talks with Apple. “We understand that Apple is in talks with a variety of automakers worldwide, including Hyundai Motor. Since the discussion is in its infancy, nothing has been decided.”
