Anyone can now receive a COVID-19 test at home – and your insurance could pay for it – BGR

  • As the coronavirus continues to grow in the United States, it is important that people who intend to reunite with family and friends be tested.
  • COVID-19 home test kits are becoming commonplace and may even be covered under standard health insurance plans.
  • Coronavirus testing kits now require a nasal swab, but Bill Gates believes less invasive options will become available in 2021.

It has never been easier to get a COVID-19 test, which is good news, given that today’s coronavirus pandemic is more severe than it has ever been. Indeed, one of the reasons why coronavirus is on the rise is that people who have the virus and are relatively asymptomatic can spread it unintentionally to anyone who comes in contact. Given this and the Christmas holidays right behind us, many health experts fear that January could be the worst month in the entire pandemic.

Simply, if you have spent time with people outside the bridge or if you intend to do so, the smart move is to be tested, whether or not you have had symptoms. The good news is that COVID home tests are plentiful and relatively easy to use.

An option for COVID testing at home comes from LabCorp. The company has a home collection kit with a nasal swab. All you have to do is send the swab sample back to the company and they will let you know if it is positive for COVID-19. The company notes that the average waiting time for results is approximately 1-2 days after the sample has been returned to them. It is also worth mentioning that LabCorp works 7 days a week

What makes the LabCorp test option so appealing is that you can use your health insurance when you place your order.

The site notes:

Please note that advance payment is not required to obtain a kit. Federal legislation passed in March 2020 imposes comprehensive private health insurance plans to cover this test and provides funding for providers to reimburse COVID-19 testing for uninsured patients. If you choose to pay out of pocket, choose not to claim a refund through this mechanism.

When placing an order, LabCorp will retrieve your insurance information to simplify the entire process.

If you do not have insurance or if your operator does not cover it, the LabCorp test kit costs $ 119, which is quite expensive. But don’t worry, there are other options available for the home testing kit. As we discussed earlier this month, Walmart and Sam’s Club now also sell coronavirus testing kits that cost just $ 99, depending on the type of shipping option you choose. Moreover, these kits include a telehealth call in cases where a person is actually positive for COVID-19.

Walmart’s COVID-19 test kit can be purchased here, while Sam’s Club’s coronavirus test kit can be found right here.
