SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah Department of Health on Sunday reported another 465 confirmed cases of COVID-19 testing in the state and six new deaths from the disease.
The department also said that 14,243 vaccines were administered in addition to Saturday’s number.
In the last week, Utah has an average of 647 cases reported per day and a positive test rate of 5.2%. Currently, 203 Utahns have been hospitalized due to COVID-19, including 84 in intensive care.
The state’s total UI capacity fell just below 70% to 69.8% on Sunday after months of overcrowding. On January 15, the state used more than 93% of its intensive care capacity.
Sunday’s numbers came as another 8,422 tests were performed in Utah, the health department said.
Overall, there have been 371,235 confirmed cases, 1,935 deaths and 716,536 vaccines administered in Utah since the pandemic began. Of these vaccines, 254,569 were the second dose.
The state administered 368,114 doses of Pfizer vaccine and 348,422 doses of Moderna vaccine, both of which required two photographs for maximum efficacy. The Johnson & Johnson one-shot vaccine was approved Saturday by the Food and Drug Administration and could be available in Utah as early as this week.
The six deaths reported on Sunday included:
- A woman from Salt Lake County between the ages of 65 and 84 who was a resident of a long-term care facility
- A man from Salt Lake County, aged 45 to 64, who was hospitalized when he died
- A man from Summit County, aged 45 to 64, who was not hospitalized when he died
- A man from Tooele County aged between 45 and 64, who was not hospitalized
- A Utah County man over the age of 85 who was a resident of a long-term care facility
- A woman from Weber County, aged 65 to 84, who was a resident of a long-term care facility
