SALT LAKE CITY – The number of COVID-19 cases in Utah rose 447 on Friday, with 17 more deaths and 31,146 reported vaccinations, according to the Utah Department of Health.
Twelve of the deaths reported on Friday occurred before Feb. 19, but were still being investigated by medical examiners, according to the health department.
The Department of Health estimates that there are 11,063 active cases of COVID-19 in Utah. The average continuous number of seven positive days a day is now 474, according to the health department. The positive daily test rate for that period compared to the ‘people over people’ method is now 8.3%. The positive seven-day average test rate calculated using the ‘test-by-test’ method is now 4.2%.
There are currently 176 COVID-19 patients currently hospitalized in Utah, including 61 in intensive care, state data show. About 73% of all beds in intensive care units in Utah are filled, including about 76% of intensive care beds at 16 state reference hospitals, according to the Department of Health. About 55% of non-ICU hospital beds are currently occupied.
A total of 1,111,185 doses of the vaccine were administered in the state, up from 1,080,039 on Thursday. A total of 737,243 Utahns have now received at least one dose of vaccine, while 402,988 are fully vaccinated. A total of 1,300,120 doses of vaccine have now been shipped to Utah.
The new figures indicate a 0.1% increase in positive cases on Thursday. Of the 2,320,731 people tested for COVID-19 in Utah so far, 16.4% tested positive for COVID-19. The total number of tests conducted since the beginning of the pandemic is now at 4,082,117, up 15,565 on Thursday. Of these, 5,967 were tested in individuals who had not been previously tested for COVID-19.
The 17 deaths reported on Friday were:
- A man from Cache County who was over 85 years old and a resident of a long-term care institution
- A man from Davis County who was between 65 and 84 years old and was hospitalized when he died
- A man from Davis County who was between 45 and 64 years old and was hospitalized when he died
- A man from Iron County, who was between 65 and 84 years old and was hospitalized when he died
- A man from Salt Lake County, who was between 65 and 84 years old and was hospitalized when he died
- A man from Salt Lake County who was between 18 and 24 years old and was hospitalized when he died
- A man from Salt Lake County who was over 85 years old and a resident of a long-term care facility
- A man from Tooele County who was over 85 years old and was hospitalized when he died
- Two men from Washington County who were between 65 and 84 years old and were hospitalized when they died
- A woman from Cache County, who was between 25 and 44 years old and was hospitalized when she died
- Three women from Salt Lake County who were between 65 and 84 years old and were hospitalized when they died
- A woman in Uintah County who was between 45 and 64 years old and was hospitalized when she died
- A woman from Washington County who was between 65 and 84 years old and was hospitalized when she died
- A woman from Weber County, who was between 65 and 84 years old and was hospitalized when she died
Friday’s totals give Utah 380,787 confirmed cases in total, with 15,241 total hospitalizations and 2,058 total deaths from the disease. A total of 369,666 COVID-19 cases are now considered recovered, according to the health department.
